Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 23, 2026
This website, the State Tariffs Tracker (the “Site”), is published by the National Taxpayers Union Foundation (“NTUF,” “we,” “us”), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, 122 C Street NW, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20001. The Site is operated on our behalf by Six Minutes Late Digital Solutions LLC, our website vendor. This policy explains what information the Site collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. It applies to this Site only.
Information you provide
If you sign up for updates or download a state report, we collect your email address, and — only if you choose to provide them — your state, answers to a few optional survey questions (such as which best describes you and what concerns you about tariffs), and your name and organization. Every question beyond your email address is optional and skippable.
Information collected automatically
When you use the Site we record standard technical information: pages viewed, browser type, and general location derived from your network address. We do not store your raw IP address — it is one-way hashed and truncated before storage, so it cannot be read back. We record a timestamp when you submit a signup form, as a record of your consent. The Site uses minimal browser storage for functional purposes (for example, remembering that you have already seen a signup prompt so we do not show it again).
Analytics and advertising technologies
We may use third-party analytics and advertising tools on the Site, including Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager (to understand how the Site is used) and, in connection with campaigns promoting the Site, advertising pixels such as the Meta (Facebook) pixel and similar tags from other advertising platforms. These tools may use cookies or similar technologies and may collect information about your visits to this Site and other websites over time in order to measure campaigns and show relevant messages.
You can opt out of these technologies:
- Google Analytics: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
- Interest-based advertising generally: optout.aboutads.info
- Meta ad preferences: available in your Facebook/Instagram account settings
- Browser controls: blocking or deleting cookies in your browser settings
Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track: if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as an opt-out of targeted-advertising processing for that browser. Because there is no settled industry standard for legacy “Do Not Track” signals, the Site does not respond to DNT signals other than GPC.
How we use information
- To deliver what you asked for — state reports, and email updates when new quarterly data is released;
- To tailor those updates to your state and interests, using the optional answers you provide;
- To understand Site usage in aggregate and improve the Site;
- To measure and run campaigns that promote the Site;
- To maintain the security and integrity of the Site.
We do not sell your personal information. We may publish aggregated, de-identified statistics (for example, total subscriber counts) that do not identify you.
How information is shared
Your information is shared only with the service providers that operate the Site on our behalf, under agreements limiting their use of it to providing services to us:
- Six Minutes Late Digital Solutions — site operation and maintenance;
- Vercel — website hosting; Cloudflare — network and DNS services;
- Turso — database hosting (data stored in the United States);
- Our email service provider — sending the updates you signed up for;
- Analytics and advertising platforms as described above, when deployed.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or in connection with a reorganization of NTUF's operations, in which case this policy would continue to apply to it.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe any time using the link in any email we send; opt-outs are honored promptly and without charge.
- Access, correct, or delete the information we hold about you by emailing ntu@ntu.org with the subject line “Privacy request.” We will respond within 45 days. If you are a resident of a state whose privacy law grants these rights (including Colorado, Delaware, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Oregon), we honor them under this same process, and you may appeal a decision by replying to our response.
- Opt out of targeted advertising using the tools above or a GPC-enabled browser.
Retention
We keep subscriber information for as long as you remain subscribed, and remove or de-identify it within a reasonable period after you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Aggregate statistics that identify no one may be retained indefinitely.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards — including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and the hashed-IP design described above. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the updated version here with a new effective date. For material changes, we will also notify the email list before the change takes effect.
